This book recalls the stirring tales of men and machines engaged in the construction of dams and resevoirs for the growing communities of South Wales.Many were sited in the more remote areas of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains.An extensive network of temporary railways-both standard and narrow gauge-were laid down to carry not only the materials and equipment required but also the workmen and even visitin civic dignitaries.Following more than thirty years of research the authors have uncovered a wealth of information and identified more than 80 steam locomotives used in the construction work.Sadly Harold Bowtell died with the work unfinished but Geoffrey Hill has completed the task, retaining the Bowtellian style of prose.
