Infrastructure is oft the forgotten feature of our railway system, with such views that do exist perhaps taken by chance or captured as part of the overall scene.
It was a wonderful surprise when in the summer of 2025 the publishers were passed a number of official books detailing bridges, mainly on former LSWR lines of the Southern Railway; neither were these just paper records, for they include numerous views of bridges mainly from the 1950s and often with interesting detail in the background.
Southern Bridge Survey is a representative selection of these images, featuring structures on both main lines as well as a number of closed cross country and branch line routes.
