In 1981, Ron Crowd transformed a dream into reality by purchasing the Washington County Branch from the Delaware & Hudson, creating the Batten Kill Railroad. For more than four decades, this rural New York short line has weathered change while serving its agricultural customers much as its predecessors did a century ago. Known for its vintage Alco diesels, the railroad also offers pastoral scenery, small-town charm, and dedicated railroaders at work. This volume presents a largely unpublished collection from more than 50 photographers, capturing the enduring character and quiet spirit of a place we proudly call “Batten Kill Country.”
