The chosen design of the Pendolino tilting train is a very interesting story and one which has attracted huge extra numbers of passengers to the West Coast routes from London to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and onwards to Carlisle and Scotland. Following introduction of the stylish Class 390s, passenger returns were so increased that soon extra trains and coaches to augment some sets to 11 coaches were required. Today the 57 train sets are the backbone to the West Coast route, providing an unprecedented service.
