A Photographic Journey from 1980 to 2020

This book by the Society’s late John Cowlishaw is the latest in the line of albums commemorating the photographic work of RCTS members and was prepared in conjunction with John before his unfortunate death in early 2022. It covers his railway photographic journey from his days at university to working as an engineering consultant which allowed him to travel all over the network for business in addition to family holidays and expeditions as a railway enthusiast. His camera always accompanied him, and he recorded the railway scene wherever it crossed his path. The range and extent of the coverage of the railway is impressive in the images he has chosen. John was meticulous in his presentation of any given photograph and recording its details.

The album is presented in landscape mode mostly with one picture per page to do full justice to John’s work, and all in glorious colour. Each image is supported by informative captions covering the image, not only of the train itself but also with John’s extensive and informative anecdotes. It is arranged in 20 themes depicting trains working on everything from China Clay to Coal, Timber and Nuclear, an industry in which John spent many years. There is also a section on Wrexham where John spent much of his life.

Hardback, 168 pages, colour photographs
