This book is about a man and his railway,the L&NWR.The man became a pillar of the Victorian establishment and his railway at one time was the largest public company of any type in the worlsd.Yet today, outside the realm of railway historians and enthusiasts, he is largely unknown.Richard Moon's life spanned the conception, birth, development and consolidation of the railway system in the United Kingdom. As a boy he probably witnessed the the opening of the first properly organised passenger carrying railway in the world, the Liverpool & Manchester Railway.and in old age he was the first to be awarded a baronetcy for service to railways.
