Coradia Class 175,No 175103 stands at Preston on18 October with the 13.12 to Manchester Airport ( 12.15 ex-Windermere )

While wholesale changes are sweeping the network,it is pleasant to see that our rich railway heritage is not being swept away completely.Such an example is Preston station which has been modernised without destroying the basic structure of the original LNWR station. Here the new Coradia unit sits comfortably under the slender ironwork of the original overall roof. Now in regular service with First North Western, these units were built by Alstom,Birmingham in 1999/2001.The type is split into the two-car Class 175,11 units, and the three-car Class 175/1,16 units. With a maximum speed of 100 mph and modern features and fittings, these units have been warmly welcomed by passengers on the semi-fast,medium distance trains in the Northwest.
