Thompson B1 4-6-0 No 1193 gets underway with a southbound express from Doncaster on 26 March 1948.

Although some of Thompson's B1 Class 4-6-0s were built in house at Doncaster and Darlington,or by Vulcan Engineering, the majority were built by the North British Locomotive Company.Eight of these,Nos 1190-1197 were introduced in May 1947 and less than one year later,No 1193,which entered service on 19 May,is seen here making a spirited departure from Doncaster with an up express on 26 March 1948.At the time the engine was still in the lined green LNER livery, with 12" Gill Sans lettering and numbering. It is believed to have received its Black British Railways livery and cast iron smokebox numberplate at Doncaster on 27 January 1949,following a General Repair.
The engine was allocated new to Doncaster where it remained until it was condemned on 16 September 1962,entering the works to be cut up on 1November.
