Thompson B1,No 61126,Retford,circa summer 1956

Class B1,61126,stands in the up platform at Retford with a local train for the Gainsborough line. The locomotive was one of the 40 built by the North British Locomotive Company and was allocated to Doncaster when it entered traffic on 7 February 1947.It moved to Retford on 3 December 1950 where it remained until withdrawal late in 1963 and subsequent sale for breaking up by Wm Rigley,Bullwell Forest early the following year.
The engine carries the original Lion & Wheel totem which was used by Britsh Railways between 1948 and 1956 and judging by its appearance it must have been photographed shortly after it was subject to a General Repair at Doncaster in April 1955,when it would have been repainted.
